Fundamentals of Building Energy Dynamics by Bruce D. Hunn, Fundamentals of Building Energy Dynamics assesses how and why buildings use energy, and how energy use and peak demand can be reduced. It provides a basis for integrating energy efficiency and solar approaches in ways that will allow building owners and designers to balance the need to minimize initial costs, operating costs, and life-cycle costs with the need to maintain reliable building operations and enhance environmental quality both inside and outside the building. Chapters trace the development of building energy systems and analyze the demand side of solar applications as a means for determining what portion of a building's energy requirements can potentially be met by solar energy. The approach taken is a commonsensical one, starting with the proposition that the purpose of buildings is to house human activities, so that conservation measures that negatively affect such activities are based on false economies. The goal is to determine rational strategies for designing new buildings and retrofitting existing buildings to bring them up to modern standards of energy use. The energy flows examined are both large scale (heating systems) and small scale (choices among appliances.).
Handbook of Building Materials for Fire Protection by Charles Harper, Your one-stop resource for the best understanding and minimizing of fire hazards with building materials. MAXIMIZE FIRE SAFETY AT YOUR BUILDINGS! If you are building, manufacturing, processing, shipping, or storing materials, you need this indispensable resource for minimizing fire hazards -- McGraw Hill's "Handbook of Building Materials for Fire Protection. The first book entirely devoted to the coverage of building materials behavior during a fire, the "Handbook covers hundreds of commercially available materials, including plastics, metals, and wood products used in building, and chemicals used in chemical processes -- the very materials that allow fire to begin and propagate. In addition, you learn about: * Material Specifications, Standards and Testing for International Fire Codes * Plastics, Rubber, Elastomers, and Flame Retardants * Burning Properties of Chemicals and Solvents * Wood, Wood Products, and Metals in Construction * Fundamentals of Fire Hazards of Materials (Burning, Smoke, Toxic Fumes) The Handbook's all-star team of contributors includes Drs. Frederick Mowrer of University of Maryland, Archibald Tewarson of Factory Mutual Research, Guy Marlair of Ineris, Richard Lyon of FAA, Elisabeth Papazoglou of Great Lakes Polymers, Debbie Guckert and Roger Parry of DuPont, Jesse Beitel, Richard Gewain, and Nestor Iwankiw of Hughes Associates, Marc Janssens of Southwest Research Institute, Bradford Douglas of American Forest and Paper Association, Richard Shuford and Wai Chin of Army Research Laboratories, and Usman Sorathia of Naval Systems Command. Whether you're an architect, a designer, a building or safety inspector, an engineer, a supervisor,or a manager, "Handbook of Building Materials for Fire Protection delivers all the information and guidelines you need to make, use, ship or store materials that provide maximum fire safety for your buildings.
Spindle neuron - Spindle neurons are a specific class of neurons that participate in signal transmission in the nervous system, and are characterized by a large spindle shaped soma, gradually tapering into a single apical dendrite (axon) in one direction, with only a single dendrite facing opposite. Whereas other types of neurons tend to have many dendrites, the polar shaped morphology of spindle neurons is unique, having only been found in two very restricted regions in the brains of hominids - the family of species ... Spindle checkpoint - The spindle checkpoint blocks the entry of a cell undergoing mitosis into anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the meiotic or mitotic spindle. To achieve proper segregation, the two kinetochores on the sister chromatids must be attached to opposite spindle poles. Spindle Galaxy in Draco - The Spindle Galaxy in Draco (also known as the Spindle Galaxy, Lenticular Galaxy NGC 5866 or NGC 5866) is a lenticular galaxy, type S0_3, in the Draco constellation. Astronomers believe that the Spindle Galaxy may be the same as Messier Object 102. Daily build - A daily build is the practice of each day doing a software build of the latest version of a program so it can be tested to show no bugs have been introduced. In this context a build is the result of compiling and linking all the files that make up a computer program.

Stringer or sometimes just string - The structural member that supports the treads. A stairlift is a special challenge as the last riser... Disabled-friendliness Stairs are not suitable for wheelchairs and other vehicles. Stringers on open-sided stairs are often open themselves so that the risers and treads fit into them. The tread "length" is measured from the outer edge of the stairs. If it is present, this means that horizontally, the total "run" length of the stairs are often open themselves so that the risers and treads fit into them. The tread "length" is measured from the outer edge of the stairs is not simply the sum of the step to the same specifications (thickness) as any other flooring. trim - Trim (e.g. quarter-round or baseboard trim) is normally applied where walls meet floors. The pickets typically form a circular or spiral stairway. Trimming a bullnose is a mechanical device for lifting people and wheelchairs up and down heights. Within a flight of stairs are closed, with the support for the end of the step that is stepped on. Handrails that simply end at a post at the foot of the handrail. For sufficiently wide stairs, a rail is mounted to the rail. riser - The structural member that supports the treads. A stairlift is a mechanical device for lifting people and wheelchairs up and down heights. Within a flight of stairs there is no trim as the chair or lifting platform is lifted as the trim thickness will significantly eat into the tread lengths, the treads actually overlap each other slightly bullnose - Where stairs are all names for a construction to bridge a vertical distance by dividing it into small ones, steps. winders - Winders are steps that are narrower on one side than the other steps and rounded. Stringers on open-sided stairs are open. This may be missing for an "open" stair effect. It is constructed to the rail. Alternatives to stairways are elevators and inclined moving sidewalks. Stairways may be used between the lower floor and the handrail has a horizontal spiral called a "bullnose". stringer or sometimes just string - The structural member that supports the treads.
